Killing weeds the natural way? Use several layers of newspapers for weed control. It is a fact that weeds cannot thrive without light from the sun. When you place layers of newspapers on top of them, the weeds will suffocate from the lack of light. Newsprint also breaks down well, incorporating itself into the compost. If you want it to look better, just add a layer or two of much over top of the newspapers. You have probably heard that compost is an advantageous to gardening, but did you ever think about the ingredients. It is made from a variety of items, including wood chips, bits of produce, twigs, straw, grass clippings, and leaves, all of which have decomposed into a sort of soil. Once this mixture has composted, through a heat-producing decay process, apply it to your garden as a fertilizer superior to the commercial ones. You need to mulch your flowerbed and garden using at least 3 inches worth of organic material. This will add nutrients to your soil, keep it moist, stop the growth of weeds and keep the garden looking beautiful. Try using a beer trap to naturally eradicate slugs from your organic garden. Dig a hole just deep enough for a glass jar to be placed in it while the jar still has its rim in line with the surface of the ground. Pour beer into the container to within an inch of the jar lip. The scent of the beer will bait the slugs into the jar and they will become trapped. When you eat fresh vegetables, take the excess and chop them finely, then add them into your garden. These vegetables will decay and put important nutrients back into the growing plants. If you do not wish to add the vegetables directly to your soil, add them to your compost pile.

Coffee grounds are a good addition to your soil. They contain nitrogenous nutrients which are essential to plant growth. The more nitrogen you have in the soil, the greater the growth of your plants will be, so adding grounds or compost will ensure your plants grow large very quickly. Use companion plants within your garden. Certain varieties of plants can actually help other plants grow when they are planted nearby. Companion plants can keep pests away, and improve soil quality. Plant vegetables and herbs with a strong fragrance to keep the pests away. If aphids cause you problems in your garden, you could try to use soapy water to solve it. Lightly spray all portions of the plant with the soapy water solution and then follow it up with water that is pure.

A good way to get fertilizer is by making compost yourself. One entertaining method of doing this is to start a worm composting bin. Try using red wiggler worms inside the bin with some dirt, newspaper shreds, and kitchen scraps.
